Our Story

Lace & Independence began with something I kept seeing in my work as an occupational therapist.

I regularly came across women who found getting dressed difficult, and one thing came up again and again: doing up a bra was often one of the hardest parts.

So I started looking at what was already available.

There were adaptive options out there, but I struggled to find something that was both genuinely functional and looked beautiful and stylish. Too often, adaptive lingerie felt clinical — as though accessibility had to come at the expense of feeling feminine, confident and like yourself.

And that got me thinking…

What if there was an adaptive bralette that was designed to make getting dressed easier, without looking like adaptive underwear?

That was the idea behind Lace & Independence.

I had the idea, but I didn’t know how to make it.

So I learnt.

I took sewing lessons, learnt more about garment construction and then joined a mentorship programme to help me develop the design into a functional, wearable product.

It has been a journey of prototypes, samples, adjustments and plenty of learning along the way. I’ve also been incredibly lucky to have OTs and potential users share their feedback throughout the process, helping me understand what really matters when it comes to making lingerie easier to put on and take off.

The result is our first adaptive bralette — designed with accessibility in mind, but made to feel like beautiful lingerie.

But this isn’t the end of the process.

Lace & Independence is still evolving. We’ll continue listening, learning and taking on feedback from the women who wear our products and the professionals who support them. Every piece of feedback is an opportunity to make what we create more functional, more comfortable and more accessible.

This first bralette is just the beginning, and I’m excited to keep developing Lace & Independence from here.

Because accessible should still be beautiful.

Welcome to Lace & Independence.
