FAQ

What makes Lace & Independence different?

Lace & Independence creates beautiful lingerie designed with accessibility in mind. Our bralettes feature an adaptive front fastening designed to make putting on and taking off a bra easier for people who have difficulty with traditional bra fastenings.

We believe accessibility shouldn’t mean compromising on style, comfort or feeling like yourself.

Who are the bralettes designed for?

Our bralettes are designed for anyone who finds traditional bra fastenings difficult to manage. This may include people with reduced hand function, limited dexterity, weakness, joint stiffness or difficulty using both hands.

Everyone’s abilities are different, so what works for one person may not work for another. We recommend watching our How It Works videos to see how the bralette can be used.

How does the adaptive fastening work?

Instead of reaching behind your back to fasten a traditional bra, our bralettes feature a front-opening design with an easy-to-use magnetic fastening system.

The fastening is designed to make it easier to secure the bralette from the front, with a centre guide loop and finger-assist loops helping you position and manage the fastening.

How do I put the bralette on?

There are three ways to put on the bralette.

You can open one side and put it on like a jacket, before securing the front fastening.

Alternatively, you can connect the two band extenders together first and put the bralette on overhead, similar to putting on a loose-fitting top.

Thirdly, you can again connect the two band extenders together first, then step into it like a skirt and then pull it up.

We demonstrate these methods on our How It Works page.

Can I put it on independently?

The bralette has been designed to support independent dressing where possible.

Whether you can put it on independently will depend on your individual movement, strength, dexterity and abilities. Some people may find one method easier than the other, while others may still prefer or require assistance.

Is it suitable for one-handed dressing?

The front-opening design and different ways of putting on the bralette are intended to make dressing easier for people who have difficulty using both hands.

However, everyone’s abilities are different. We recommend watching our demonstration videos to see whether you think the fastening and dressing methods would work for you.

Sizing & Fit

How do I choose my size?

Please refer to our Sizing Guide before ordering.

For our launch, we are also offering a limited number of at-home fitting appointments within Melbourne, where you can try the bralette before purchasing.

These appointments are intended to help you find the right size and, importantly, see whether the adaptive design works for you and your individual needs.

If you’re unsure about your size or would like to enquire about an appointment, please contact us at hello@laceandindependence.com.au.

What is the difference between the narrow and wide band bralettes?

Both bralettes feature the same adaptive front-opening concept, but they have different band designs.

The wide band provides additional coverage and support, while the narrow band has a lighter, more delicate feel.

Both are designed with accessibility and comfort in mind.

How should the bralette fit?

Your bralette should feel secure and comfortable without digging in or feeling excessively tight.

The band should sit comfortably around your body, and the cups should contain your breast tissue without gaping or spilling.

If you’re unsure about fit, please contact us before wearing or returning your bralette and we’ll be happy to help where we can.

Please follow the care instructions provided on the garment label.

⸻

Accessibility

Can someone help me put the bralette on?

Absolutely. Although the bralette is designed to support independent dressing, it can also be put on with assistance from a partner, family member, carer or support worker if required.

Is Lace & Independence suitable for older women?

Absolutely. Lace & Independence is designed for women of all ages who find traditional bra fastenings difficult.

We want accessibility to feel inclusive, stylish and empowering — not clinical or limited to a particular age group.

Is Lace & Independence an NDIS-funded product?

Lace & Independence is designed to support people who experience difficulty with dressing and managing traditional bra fastenings.

Our products may be able to be purchased using NDIS funding under the Consumables category, where the purchase meets the NDIS funding rules and is considered reasonable and necessary for the individual.

As Lace & Independence is currently not NDIS registered, we recommend checking with your plan manager, support coordinator or other relevant NDIS professional before purchasing if you intend to use NDIS funding.

If you are purchasing through an NDIS plan, we can provide an invoice or receipt to assist with this process. Please contact us at hello@laceandindependence.com.au if you require this.

We are working towards becoming NDIS registered in the future and hope to make accessing our products even easier for the disability community.
